Sifting though some old hard discs I discovered a directory of raw data I'd long since forgotten about.

As the rain is persisting down outside...I can only describe the feeling as finding a $50 note in the pocket of a raincoat you haven't worn in a while

I think my processing skills may have actually improved ( or maybe not ) in any event, the 2015 processing result ended up with minimal colour fringing, plus the dynamic balance seems about right..

Might I make a suggestion Peter - I couldn't see a way to link to other images or a gallery of yours from your image page? I know you have a heap of other great images, I don't know if it's possible for you to place a link on each image back to your main gallery, wherever it is? Just a thought!

A wonderful discovery. The rich colours in the field stars and outer parts of the cluster are superb. (Perhaps the cluster is overall very slightly too blue given these are mostly very old stars.) Very sharp. Excellent resolution.

The king lives! Lovely rendition Peter. I bet you were sure pleased to find that data set. I miss your long focal length adventures. I wonder if you'll out do this with the 16" 'Kahoona'

Thanks Jase. Well, still here, could lose some weight, & lower my blood pressure . I have no doubt there will be a few standard candles in the gaze of the big ( K)alluna when it arrives

Thanks, have to say I'm missing the long focal length of the RC...it was an excellent instrument. That said , its replacement will hopefully deliver some wonderful imagery.

Ah yes, my disheveled gallery ......a lot of rubbish in there too...but getting them into some sort of order is on the "to-do" list

Funtastic resolution Peter. Individual stars can be seen right in the centre of the cluster. It looks like some slight registration misalignment on the left hand side or was there and errant sub there with a stars that are a bit eggy.

You are indeed correct about the left-hand edge stars. I figured it was a combination of two factors, the scope was slightly out of collimation and there was tilt in the camera focal plane.....something I will totally nail down with the new 'scope...

I suppose I could have applied a local correction...but figure you might as well forget using a camera, and get the paint-brush out at that point

I also expect the Alluna to be far more forgiving of any residual alignment errors, as the 92mm diameter field corrector will deliver a much wider corrected field than the RCOS ever did, plus the Alluna uses 30% larger diameter instrument rings which are decidedly more rigid.

I must admit I'm really looking forward to its arrival

It's an awesome object...I was pleased to see the carbon star (very red) at about 8 o'clock, about 2/3rds from the core.. I suspect it's a variable as it doesn't always show

that's a classy image - very good control of the dynamic range and the colours are convincing.
