Continuing the obscure target and RCW theme, here is another. Adjacent to RCW75 is, you guessed it, RCW74. Its approximately 1 degree in separation so if I had planned it better, it could have been a basic two panel mosaic though framing would have been tight. Quite a strange area of the sky but plenty going on with an abundance of emission, dark and reflection nebulosity around.
Some odd framing with this image as I wasn't thinking composition at the time I uploaded the test plan to ACP Scheduler. Curvature in the FoV present, but again I'm not doing anything about it until the optical train is finalised. Slowly starting to get the processing workflow under control after the hiatus, but still banging my head at certain functions of photoshop that I've forgotten about. Perhaps a more mainstream target next but no promises.
What an unusual nebula. It looks like the Dark Tower quite a bit but more in a crab like shape.
Something new.
Greg.
Yep, too many targets not enough time Greg. Attached is a map for those who want to do some more hunting of the area.

Thanks Rick. Some of the features would be worthy of follow up with a longer focal length. I normally map images within TheSkyX to determine framing of mosaics etc. Handy for long focal lengths to find a guide star. It would be great to see a larger mosaic of the area if you've the dark sky time. Thanks for checking it out.
Very interesting Jase! Keep the obscure ones coming - I started on a close up of RCW75 last night and used your image and a test exposure or two to determine best framing
Wow! The combined emission/reflection/dust makes for a beautiful photo, beautifully prepared.
The kid in me can't help seeing the Caped Crusader in his dust-black bat-suit, with padded shoulders, forgetting that he is still wearing Bruce Wayne's blue reflection nebula bow-tie.
I like it. Colour balance is excellent and the background colour is superb. Something I have been wrangling with for some time, on my own images. That charcoal colouring is the aim in my opinion.

Thanks Marcus! Fantastic to hear you've taken up the long focal length challenge on RCW75. The area around Stock16 should look awesome. Almost makes me want to bring my 12.5" RCOS back out of storage to do follow up observations. I'm looking forward to seeing your result mate.

Thanks for checking it out M&T! Is a fascinating area of the sky. Now you mention the dark super hero figure, I can clearly see it. Funny how you can process an image and see different features. It reminded me a little of IC2177.

Cheers Paul! Was a clean data set to process so that makes it easier. Getting a background 'correct' I believe is a subjective topic. Some like a gentle blue cast, others inky black or somewhere in between such as charcoal as you mention. Also depends of the output. For web display, I think you are right that charcoal is the most appealing but it doesn't always work for print. Anyway I guess that's a completely different topic that goes along with the colour of space discussion. Thanks for checking it out, appreciated.
Nice image Jase! There's certainly a lot of good stuff in the RCW catalogue.
Cheers
Steve
Thanks Steve! Its something different and uncharted territory for longer focal lengths. The RCW catalogue is certainly one of the more interesting out there containing some really obscure targets. If anything, this sort of image allows you to plan follow up observations at longer focal lengths. Always helps to have a reference image for composition and guide selection.

Cheers Kevin! For sure. Its the unknown that drives me to image these targets. There are references of the area in Ha as JG points out. The presence of reflection nebulosity across the dark rift was a surprise. Until you try imaging these obscure targets, you never know what you'll see. Thanks for checking it out.
