My first blog post on Nightscape photography

Here is the first serious post in my Blog. A how to for shooting the Milky Way Nightscape images. I would love some critique feedback from people regarding the Blog post.

Nice little summary Andrew. A few things I immediately spotted:
- Links are not clickable.
- When talking about 400/500/600 Rule it is important to mention the difference between crop sensor cameras and full frame cameras. For example you used 20mm in your blog and 30 seconds using the 600 Rule. If that 20mm lens is on a crop sensor camera then you need to multiply the focal length by the crop factor before dividing from 600. So on a Nikon, 20 times 1.5 = 30. 600/30 = 20 seconds.
- The references to the "Milky Way" are misleading. What you are referring to is the brightest central region of our galaxy but everything in the night sky that we can see with the unaided eye is in, and thus the Milky Way (with the exception of the Magellanic Clouds and Andromeda). The central region is of course the most photogenic but there are plenty of other areas in the sky that can be just as interesting if the central bulge is not present at the time. You sort of implied that you can only shoot the MW from Autumn to Spring.

There are of course a heap more things and techniques that are useful to know when shooting nightscapes but I of course understand that this is just a brief summary blog post and not meant to be an all inclusive tutorial.
Hope this helps
Greg

Thanks Greg.
I have included the suggestions you made to the Blog post.
Thanks for reminding me about the Crop Sensor calculation.
The links in the post worked perfectly for me so not sure what's happening there.

Hi Andrew,

I like the look of your blog overall.

One thing to note is ease of navigation. When you view a clicked image, there needs to be a link taking you back to the home page.

And as your blog progresses, you'll want to include a navigation bar somewhere in the top part of the screen, usually under the header image, and options down the left or right sidebars to help people get to where they want to go quickly and efficiently.

Nice idea though.

Just my 2c Andrew. Hope it helps

The links within the text of the blog are just text for me and not hyperlinked to anywhere (viewing on a different computer system now so probably not an issue from my end)

Nikons crop factor is x1.5
Canons crop factor is x1.6
