Ngc 253.

Hi guys, my apologies for being absent form the forum for a while. Work has been very busy, and time under the stars has been a bit limited. Here is my second attempt at an LRGB image. I must say the processing was a little trickier than with the OSC, but I think I managed ok?

It has it's flaws, and probably not comparable to some of the other great Sculptors posted recently, but it's an improvement from my last attempt

I have a couple of questions, but I'll post that to the other section later.
So it's 6 hours luminous, and 1 hour of RGB (Not sure how much is enough)
Processed in PI (3 times because I stuffed up the colour combination)

Any feedback would be great!
Erik

Nice round stars and good detail, Erik! You could push the saturation a little more IMHO but that's a matter of personal taste.

Cheers,
Rick.

True Rick, it is a bit "Bland" perhaps. Thanks for the input

Nice Erik, processing is so customized to different methods...You can spend hours behind PS, I can see the detail is there. Excellent work

Eric,

I have been out of the loop for imaging and time on the forum for a while myself until just a little while ago, I feel for your situation, work has a unique of getting in the way of well made plans.

Your 253 looks very similar to my attempt a couple of months ago, and given it is your first LRGB then extra credit is needed.

The background could do with extra subs or processing to reduce noise, but that would be my only change, colour is subjective but important to make it more pleasing to the eye. You have good dynamic range, as you can make out detail on both the centre and outer of the disk.

Justin

Erik,

Sorry for Eric, predictive text has its issues.

My friends wife name is Ang and predictive text turns that into Nag on some platforms.

Great job and welcome back Erik

It has all the essential elements of a good 253 to me and any suggestions would be mostly personal preference.

Thanks Justin. Yes there is generally something that gets in the way! Thanks for the feedback. I think I may have found out why the background is rough looking. Should have ticked a certain checkbox in the "camera settings"

Thanks Mike, it's good to be back and see what you guys have been up to. Been busy by the looks of it, lots of great images going around. I'm glad to get one in. Was having withdrawals form the all nighters and hours of processing

Holy Cow this is only your 2nd LRGB image? Amazingly good.

Round stars, lots of detail, you got the vertical dust plumes, colour looks good perhaps a bit too much blue in the background. At AAIC in July Martin recommended a higher percentage of RGB than 1 hour out of 8. More like 25-30%. When you consider a lot of the noise in an image seems to come from the RGBs that makes a lot of sense. I have started doing more RGB as a proportion. I think it helps with the processing with less breakdown and more able to control colour noise.

Greg.

Thanks Greg I wasn't sure how much colour to capture. It makes sense what you say about the noise and the RGB channels. I was reading a thread the other day I think, about capturing more RGB's.

Thanks for the feedback
Erik
