Cool ABC StarStuff

There's a weekly ABC Radio Science program (also available anytime as an online podcast), called StarStuff, that covers astronomy, astrophysics and other space-related topics: StarStuff

There's also a blog with a few extra bits, such as interesting URLs: StarStuff Blog

And a twitter feed: @abcStarStuff

I didn't even know this existed until today. There are some really interesting topics discussed - e.g. gravity waves and milli-second pulsars, dark lightning and terrestrial gamma rays, supernova candidates, the Chelyabinsk meteorite recovery, and more. And that's just the current episode.

Enjoy!

Great program.

They used to play it on Radio National on a Saturday night. My brother and I would be fishing for mulloway at the Narrows in Perth, listening to this, right before the English Premier League match of the week.

Sadly, it was pulled from airtime a couple of years ago, but it is still running in the background on the ABC website, and you can also access it as a podcast.

You're right. I'd never heard it on radio, so assumed it was still broadcast. Amusingly, it's broadcast in full in the USA (Science360Radio).

It's still there as a weekly poscast, though.

That's such a shame. I only discovered it earlier in the year. Stuart Gary did an excellent job as presenter. He went into so much detail and was very knowledgeable.

Sad news indeed, a great program. Anyone hear whether it was an ABC management decision or a personal decision of Stuarts? Surely with enough lobbying from some dedicated IIS members we could persuade them to run it again, even with a new presenter if needed??
