Jupiter 24-25th Sept

With Jupiter big and bright at opposition it was a real drawcard earlier this week. Some clearish nights and with a GRS transit early in the evening it was shaping up nicely! The 24th was clear in patches but seeing quite temperamental, I got a couple of videos at the tail end of the GRS transit and since RGB was very poor decided to take some in IR too. The 25th was turbulent and cloudy up front (missed the transit) but seeing improved dramatically and I spent a few hours just on the binos with the c14. Finally after tearing myself away from the eyepieces I thought I'd take a few shots using OSC and mono (still to process)...

24th Sept: Poor Seeing
ASI224mc (UV/IR) & ASI290mm (IR685)

25th Sept: Ok to Good Seeing
ASI224mc (UV/IR)

c14
eq8
ZWO ADC
ASICAP / AS!3 / Registax6

Have to admit I'm still struggling with colour-balance and all attempts to make changes in GIMP / PS just seem to kill detail so just left it as it.
Thanks for looking

Great images David. Nice to have some evenings without clouds.
Your colours look pretty good to us, quite natural.

thanks guys. I've had another play, this time in LightRoom to adjust curves and a touch of saturation, as well as some sharpening. I'd love you get any thoughts on this...

That latest version looks really good, definitely better processing than the first version. Great detail. Colours can be very subjective and some people have some pretty strong opinions, but your image is very much to our liking. Well done!!

Dave,
Absolutely amazing. Splendid detail across the entire planet face- plenty to ponder in those swirly bands, a real winner. Colours are always hard to manage I think with planetary imaging but the first set look very smooth and natural.
Excellent.

Thanks folks. Yes I was happy with how it turned out with a little bit more processing. However trying the same method on the other GRS shot (taken in worse seeing) didn’t hold together and looked worse the more I pushed it. I guess there’s a lesson there…
