While I don't have a wife, I do have a SWSMM, well sort of. Last night while I was setting up for a run to image Mars, my gal was washing our dinner dishes and putting on a load of my washing and then she came out and asked if there was anything I needed before she went to bed. That was at 1.00am at my house. While she can be trying, and she does not always understand what I am rabbiting on about, she does understand that I need my little eccentricities to exist in this mad world.

How right you are Paul. That's all any of us need . Just a bit of understanding and acceptance. But maybe not understanding of what gets us so hooked just that we get hooked.

You guys are lucky.. nah my wife is fairly understanding, I can't expect too much leeway from her, it is very hard to be a stay at home mum with 3 young kids.. Her job is definitely harder than mine. So I have to be understanding of her! I can understand that after being at home with 2-3 young kids all day, that you don't want to be by yourself at night too, while your hubby goes outside and plays telescopes.
I wish she had more interest in the hobby, but it's just not to be
Nice one Paul, i'll take that GM8 off your hands for $100

Can't beat a good Kiwi girl huh?
Look at it from the other side though, she is probably thinking, what is a couple of grand US, just to not have to sit on the couch with that ugly sod, plus it is his credit card anyway, I just look after it. Man, the G-11 is a different ball game though. Congrats.

I have met Sya and yes a very nice lady.....it definitely helps if your wife is understanding.
My wife has no problem with what I have bought but she doesn't know the full cost either..that could be a different story....lol
I hope you have told her the full cost of the G-11 Paul...dont start going down my path of descent.

Hook a macrame chair off each end and it would make a great swing set for the kids :lol

I have a wonderful partner. He works 6 days a week (Mon to Sat) and understands that as a stay at home mum, I need some time to get away from the kids. I put the kids (5 and 3) to bed on Saturday night, and then I am free to spend as much time outside with my telescope as I want. He's happy to stay inside and play the ps2 for a while. After making sure the kids are asleep he sometimes brings the smaller telescope outside to have a look at the moon and have a look at whatever I'm looking at through the bigger telescope (I actually bought our first scope for him, but I'm the one who got hooked on it).
My kids are trained to get up later on Sunday mornings and my partner is happy to get up with them as it is 3 hours later than he normally gets up, so he feels he has slept in and can't sleep any later, so I am free to sleep in late if I have had a late night the night before.
I really appreciate this time to be able to unwind. Those of you with small children know how stressful it can be. I love my children, but I need some time to think without anybody demanding a drink/story/shoes tied/hands washed/nose blown/something opened etc.
Oh, he also let me buy my newest scope and puts up with me not being able to part with any of my smaller scopes (though I now have four). I'm planning on holding a star party for all of my nieces and nephews at the start of next year, so at least I have plenty for them to look through .

It really is wonderful . I appreciate that he works hard all week and is happy to just relax on Saturday nights with the playstation. He likes to play online. That is what he wants to do to unwind.
I also appreciate that he understands my need to be without kids for a few hours on Saturday nights, but also makes an effort to be involved in what I am doing. I really couldn't ask for more. I do know how lucky I am.

Great to hear you have a supportive partner Twokids, my wife actually helped me to turn my interest in astronomy into an obsession !
It started out as a couple of Astronomy themed nights (3yrs ago) at the local Community centre & has grown into the local club (70+ members) of which I am the founder & President.
Sometimes I think she wonders about the monster she helped create
