Had a go at PE measurement - got the polar alignment pretty close and got one and a bit worm cycles recorded before it started raining

I'm a bit rusty at PE measurement however I'm pretty excited by what I've seen so far. Imaging scale was 3.7 arcseconds/pixel.

That's looking pretty good Peter!

Looking forward to seeing some more cycles when then weather obliges.

Tried to drag Greg out to Leyburn on Saturday night - he baulked at the weather and missed a surprisingly good night.

Yes. I need to get a few cycles to get confident in the result. I also want to do the analysis in PECprep so I can directly compare it with what I measured prior to doing the belt mod however I found out last night that PERecoder doesn't work with 64 bit Windows.

Does that read 1.14 arc secs?
are you able to change the scale to arcsecs instead of pixels?

Image scale is 3.7 as/p - multiple pixels by 3.7 to get arc seconds.

Got all setup to test my PE after installing the belts and it's been so long since I used EQMOD and a handset to control the scope that I couldn't hear the motors when I set it off on the fastest rate as the mount is so quiet now. Tried to use PEMPRO with the ZWO camera but no go, so I will have to use the DSI if tomorrow night holds up. Had to reset the DEC as I hadn't adjusted it properly but now both axis have no backlash at all which is nice. Will post here when I have some data, but I should state that the belt mod is actually a doddle to do after doing the hyper tune.

Very nice!

Any idea what it has done to pointing accuracy?

Pointing accuracy has improved a lot for me. That was the main reason I did the belt mod.

Cheers

Pointing accuracy was never an issue before this change (especially with EQMOD) however I haven't tested that yet since the belt mod - I was more concerned about getting some PE data last night. Maybe tonight.

The PE looks good however I need to re-learn EQMOD since I haven't played with it for a couple of years.

The belt has definately removed the significant amount of PE that the transfer gear was contributing in my case.

hi,

Dave has posted some results of a pointing test he did here.
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...&postcount=131

as mentioned, repeat slews to the same target or new target were always a problem for me. with the belt mod, its always close to the center.
I do see a small improvement in guiding as well. But I use an OAG so its not a major issue for me.

Cheers
Alistair
