Jupiter + Io Nov 21UT

The C11 was otherwise occupied with some photometry last night, so while hanging around I thought to grab the C6SE and have a look. The seeing was average, but on whim I stuck in the TV 2.5x powermate and took some video of Jupiter with the DBK618.

I was really surprised by the result, given a) the ordinary seeing, b) the low elevation of Jupiter, and c) the small aperture of the C6!

Looking carefully at the image, you can see the turbulent wake of the GRS which has just rotated off the left side, some festoons in the equatorial band, a hint of some white ovals in the south temperate zone (south is to the top), and a mini barge in the northern equatorial belt.

And of course, there is a nice bright Io on the right.

Actually, I must say I have a ball every time I get this scope out. Takes about 3 minutes to set up, and punches way above it's weight!

Thanks Laurie and Ray.

I was just looking at some Jupiter images from the US at the same CM, and I notice the red spot in the northern temperate belt is visible in this image as well. A bit smeared out, but its there!

Thanks Rebecca. While such a small scope can't reveal any surface detail, it does show the distinctive colour really well.
