LMC Mosaic in 3nm NII

Collected over a few nights between many nights of cloud.

Six panels in 3nm NII. 8 X 16 minutes for each panel. About twelve hours in all. FoV 7.2 X6.2 degrees.

Small image 4MB

Full res image 14MB

Even with 3nm filters gradients between panels vary depending on how bright the Moon is.

Next is OIII data and then LRGB.

Looking great, Bert - I love the way the nebulae look floating amongst the galaxy. Can't wait to see the final product!

That's kind of weird, and amazing to look at!

Nice one Bert!

Cheers,

Justin.

Bert

you could improve this image significantly by not clipping the blacks, which they appear to be (heavily) on the left side of the image in particular.

cheers

Martin you are quite correct. There is a gradient that increases from left to right and is slightly different on each frame. I may have to eliminate these gradients before stitching the panels together.

Here is a better? version 9.9 X 6.2 degrees 16MB

Martin is saying that your blacks are clipped which I agree. But you have excellent detail. I did this one a few years ago with 6nm HA. More gray to the background vs. all black. All depends on what you want to show however.

Here is a version with the gradients 'removed' before stitching 10MB

wow what a delight opening the images. The last one with the gradient removed is one entertaining image.
