How NASA might build its very first warp drive

Interesting, a ray of hope perhaps, but still a lot of hurdles to overcome yet methinks.

"A few months ago, physicist Harold White stunned the aeronautics world when he announced that he and his team at NASA had begun work on the development of a faster-than-light warp drive. His proposed design, an ingenious re-imagining of an Alcubierre Drive, may eventually result in an engine that can transport a spacecraft to the nearest star in a matter of weeks — and all without violating Einstein's law of relativity."

A long time ago i learned our galaxy is 100 000 light years in diameter. I said to myself there must be something faster than light or we will never be able to get to even nearest star. But we were told speed of light is ultimate speed and still is. Because we usually design vehicle that moves through space and this is altering space around the vehicle so it moves. This idea is fascinating.

Because even if we were able to travel near speed of light it would take us more than 100 000 years just to travel across our galaxy.

Exciting, i like the idea very much!

cheers

Let me guess it only needs 1600 pounds of antimatter!

If I had 1600 pounds of antimatter I would need a very fast machine to get out of range of the explosions.

I am sure there is only a few minor technical details to make it all work.

The tablet pre-dates Star-Trek's PADD.
Douglas Adams' Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy(1978) was a book-like folding tablet.
Which apparently won't be too far away. I remember reading somewhere sometime, that someone ( ) is working on thin flexible electronic displays (OLED's would be my guess), perfect for folding

We (my company) are working on PLEDs (polymer) and they do roll...just a matter of time to get their lifespan sufficient to be commercial...

I seem to recall that only one color was left to optimize and that it was near 3-5 years (maybe less). We have a number of materials tha are used in the IT area (iGear and Galaxy)...it is pretty amazing stuff in the lab, now to see if it can be done commercially...

Should give an idea of what is coming and the timeline...

One must remember the old adage

"what the mind can conceive, the mind can achieve"

although I can't afford mine
