Caps..

Hi. Didn't know where to drop this so mods feel free to move it to somewhere more appropriate.

Assorted endcaps - I want lots of them for various things like cameras, EP's Barlows etc etc.

Anyone that knows of a good source, please come to the party!

Cheers.

Did a bit of research with other than my usual search engine & came up with these two.

Thanks again Morton. That's not too bad a price as well.

Hey thanks Arek! Looks like there is no real shortage of caps for various items like I first thought initially (along with many other's) so that's a good thing. The amount of times I've dropped these caps on the ground & never turned up again ever (like that one sock from a pair) is uncanny! I think 50 caps wouldn't be unrealistic

I'd be interested to find a "cost effective" source for T thread caps, both male and female...
I had a batch machined for me a few years ago (for the spectroscopes) and they were NOT cheap.....

I'm with you on that one Peter. I hate having to deal with caps, particular in the dark. Using a 2" -1 1/4" Televue eyepiece I once left a clear cap on the 1 1/4" part and put the eyepiece into a 2" diagonal and wondered why my images looked out of focus and fuzzy. It took me about half a minute to realise what I had done. My clueless astro moment

Now, I have a waterproof /dustproof case with machined high density foam inserts that fit my eyepieces exactly without caps (note finger access has been provided for). This arrangement is great, no annoying or lost caps.

I am in the process, albeit slowly, of having all my accessories put into these cases with machined inserts. Quite cheap to do (see "Show us your equipment!' at top of equipment page for my thread on cases).

Cheers Peter

Peter,
VERY impressive!
I just did a count of my "cases" - I now have 18 of them!
The only issue (other than cost!) with custom foam is that it looks "unloved" when you change/ upgrade your collection of eyepieces/ adaptors/ cameras/ spectroscopes...

Merlin, that actually isn't an issue really. The case manufacturer I use can easily make modifications. I had a case made for my 80ED and after it was made I decided to change the focuser to a JMI focuser and it didn't fit the case, so I had it modified and he did a great job, and it didn't cost much at all for the mod.

However, I do agree that if you replace accessories frequently it can be a problem. This is the reason I don't have all my accessories in cases yet as I haven't full decided on what I want.

Cheers Peter
