Eclipse on a budget (near Spring Creek)
Thanks to Phil for sending out coordinates of a good viewing area inland of Cairns for randoms like me to find.
Unfortunately I had no real astro gear with me. Had to make do with a Canon IXUS 230HS point-and-shoot, and solar glasses.
Method: set focus to infinite, pre-focus on distant hill and then swing camera over to point at the sun through the eclipse glasses. Take snap.
Amazed that sun spots could be seen using such low-tech gear (see last pic).
