Most Stuffed Up Sub-frame

If you're into astrophotography then you've most likely had one; a stuffed up subframe. Now normally these get frowned or shouted at, but occasionally one or two are worth remembering. I had one of those moments last night while imaging with Buddman. We were both scratching our heads for a while but finally worked it out.

Some categories you might want to consider:

They're Watching Me! - Planes, satellites and other human technological fly byes.

God I'm Stupid!! - The human malady. Those little things that if you'd done it right in the first place and not taken a short cut or gotten distracted....

Stretching the limits of technology & patience - When man and machine just can't seem to work together.

We're Not Alone! - Proof that UFOs exist.

Feel free to add your own

My first entry (there'll likely be plenty of others ) is a double entry. The first category is from They're Watching Me!!! Taken last night on my second 10 min sub of NGC253. One fly by wasn't enough. Plane and tumbling satellite.

The second category is We're Not Alone. Check out the upper left portion of 253 and you will see two large smeared 'stars' that normally aren't there. Obviously flashing lights that only managed to flash once in the frame and smeared by the motion of the plane. But Adam and I were scratching our heads for a minute or two

I remember imaging the Helix I think it was, one night and out of 16 subs 9 had satellites going through them with a total of 15 satellites. I don't know what I was doing that night but 'they' were sure interested.

No planes in my subs, although I did manage to capture some dopey tall fool's red light torch when he decided to check something on the front of the scope while he was capturing a sub of M15.....D.O.H.

Who's gotta dirty primary? Not me!

Cheers

I dunno Ric. That looks more like The Enterprise that a plane. Could be a genuine contestant for We're Not Alone.

M15?? I thought you were imaging through a PST for a sec That wouldn't happen to have been taken at QLD Astrofest a couple of years ago would it??? I know just the culprit.

I dunno Rick. I've got a completed 253 from a while ago with the plane left in, going through the middle and some non-astro people I've showed it to prefer it to the un-planed one. Go figure?

Ahh, no, that would have been me on the 4th October 2012, when I was checking out the temperature of the DSLR cooler, I forgot the camera was taking a sub and stood right in front of the scope.

It does look like a solar shot though....

Cheers

No Paul it was actually through the Tak, FSQ-106 whilst i was doing some 5mins subs of the area, it happened just at the end of the exposure hence the plane didn't make it through the complete frame.

Of course, I've never stuffed up any sub-frame.

But I do get the occasional interesting shot. For instance these - Jupiter exhibiting distinctly cometary activity, and some strange bacterial infection on the face of the Sun.

Cheers -

From photometry series of Variable UV Cet. – faster then speed of light flare or maybe collapsing to black hole. Then next night displaying strange attraction to meteors?
