[SOLD] Guidescope rings

165mm guide scope rings for SCT with dovetail rail made by Bonny Lakes Astro works http://www.milburnwedge.com/mounting-rings.php. Great guide scope rings machined from T6061 aluminium. Inside diameter of rings is 6.5-inch (165mm), long adjustment screws hold guide scopes with an OTA diameter in the range 70mm – 150mm. Distance between the rings is adjustable. Very sturdy setup. Rubber cups are missing from guidescope adjustment screws.

Hi Paul, I have interest in this for piggybacking a heavy DSLR on my 8" SCT. I do have a few quick questions though:

What's the minimum distance between the rings and is this distance infinitely adjustable (I think that's what it looks like in the picture)?

I'm thinking for a 200mm f/2.8 lens (150mm between front and back of where rings would hold lens, and 75mm diameter at back and 90mm diameter at front) but I'm also thinking for a much smaller 85mm lens which is still > 70mm in diameter but only around 60mm on usable length for the screws.

Also from the picture it looks like a solid aluminium bar. The holes don't appear to line up with any on my SCT. Is there anything that would prevent me from simply attacking it with a powerdrill to mount on my scope?

Hello Chris

The minimum distance between the rings would be about 2cm. So you can adjust between min and max distance as required to suit different equipment whenever you like.

There's no problem with attacking it with a drill for mounting... you may find the two holes in the bar that I drilled will suit you (so that I could mount the guidescope as shown at http://www.campingunderstars.com/observatory.html )
