Brisbane Festival laser light show

Hi all,

Here are some images of the Santos GLNG "City of Lights" laser light show, which is on every night during the Brisbane Festival. It finishes on Friday night, so if you're in Brisbane and haven't seen it yet it's worth heading in to Southbank for a look!

All images are 0.5 sec exposures with the 15-85mm @ 15mm, f/3.5, 800 iso.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

Yes that b$&@)dy light show has been messing with my photography.
Some of us call it light pollution.
The Romans had a name for it - Bread and Circuses - to distract the prols from what was going on.

Wonder if it has been bothering the pilots?

More great photos of our city.

I was at Mt Coot-tha with BAS on Saturday night. We all saw the 'search lights' slewing across the sky but the laser show was not seen from our location. Maybe the elevation of the lasers was kept low to avoid the issue with aircraft.

Between the city light, low lying smoke on the horizon and the low cloud that came in from the East the extra light pollution did not really make an impact. Camera flashes from tourists taking photos of the scopes... well that's another story.

Great images Steven.

Shame they run it over the new moon weekend in one of the few remaining clear sky months. Hope they get hit with extra carbon tax!

Great pictures. That show looks mad. Wouldn't it be dangerous though pointing laser down at people's eyes?

Thanks for the comments everyone!

The lasers seem to be always aimed down towards the river, so they would not cause any problems for pilots. They did occasionally pass over the crowds of spectators (as in image #7), but there didn't seem to be any problems with people's eyes or camera semsors!

Cheers,
Stephen

Great shots Stephen - and in my book especially number two. It's the cleanest and most striking to me.

I'm just stirring the pot Stephen, but there are a few shots you've taken when the beams appear to be pointing straight up, especially from the barge. It might be the low perspective from which you're taking the shot. Just seems contradictory for the government to sanction/pay for something that they jump up and down about at other times.

IMHO though, while I can see the technical side of this show, give me real fireworks any day!

Nice and colourful. Think I can make out some faint fuzzies in the background. Just kidding.
