Can't get PHD to auto star select.

Hi guys.
Wondering if any one knows the secret of getting PHD to auto select a star. No matter what I do I can't get it to work.
I need this to work to do auto meridian flips using Maxpilote, a free automation app.
Thanks.
Sandy

Hi Sandy, does it pick a hotpixel or just doesn't select any star at all? I've never used it but all I can think of is decrease the size of the green box.

hi,

Have you enabled the "server" in Phd and looked at "phdmax" in the same site as maxpilote although that's for dithering.

I'm just guessing that maxpilote would send the "Auto-select" star command to phd similar to what SGP might do.
not sure where the option is in phd to auto select star other than the menu item that you click on to auto select.
there must be a way else SGP won't be able to auto select a guide star after the flip which it does.

edit: this might help.
I think you need v2 of phd.

Thanks Alistair.

I'm using phd 2 at the moment, and have server selected. It just won't auto select. I'll try maxim as I know auto acquire works well.

Thanks

Haven't switched to PHD2 yet. I'm on the yahoo group and read there's a lot of teething issue still so waiting for the noise to die down. If you have MAXIM then use that. No problem with star selection. I find myself using MAXIM more often for capturing now too.

I've been using Maxim for a while now as its guiding is very easy and reliable, but the auto star select doesn't always work for me even if there is a bright star. I have to manually select the star most of the time. maybe its some setting i'm missing.

I've written to Laurent and he said he'll test the phd star select feature and let me know.
Hoping to give it a go this weekend at snake valley.

Cheers
Alistair
