Lenspen for cleaning...opinions, opiniates!

Just bought one of these, marketed by Celestron.
Any user has any good or bad experience using them to clean your eyepieces?
The information on the internet generally states it is ok or quite alright to use them but I still have some doubt.
So, should I use them or throw it into the bin?

Ian,

People have used them without incident...and in my opinionthey are okay provided that the "tip" end (part that goes on the optics) is clean and grit free.

I don't use one myself preferring to use Q-tips/ cleaning fluid for big cleans and/or the occassional optics wipe in the field but that aside, a lenspen in good condition just make sure to "blow" off the dust from the optic surface (and also the pen) and don't press too hard.

Hi. I have used these for years on camera lenses with no obvious problems (and with eyepieces). However, I do start by blowing off any dust/grit with a hand blower, then use the brush, then follow up with the lenspen.

I use a celestron one and I think it's quite good, next best thing to cleaning fluid.
The lens pen is brilliant for eyepieces and camera lenses and can even be used on imaging source cameras.
I was actually considering getting another one and also the mini version.

Like Scott I prefer the Q-Tip method, but have never had any problems with a Lenspen, perticularly on EPs.
Just a hint: make sure the optical surface is cool before you apply any solvent or cleaner. If its hot from solar exposure you can be left with nasty marks!!

I prefer cleaning with little or no pressure letting the solvent do the work which rules out the lenspen.

Yes, I use one. Spend time blowing and brushing all dust off first and inspecting before applying the pad. Perfect for fingerprints (yikes! but it happens) and various human skin oils etc.
