Astronomy from the Big Brother house.

Yep I dont mind watching BB. The BB house wouldnt be good for astronomy though lol. I was thinking if ever I was there, I would be asking big brother to turn off the bright yard floodlights after most HMs had gone to bed, so I could see a really dark sky (as the BB compound is in a bush setting in Dreamworld) If I was really pushing my luck Id ask Big Brother to allow me to bring in my Cometracker 6 inch S.N and attach one of the spiffy low light video cameras they use in the bedrooms to it.

In a previous BB series, as no clocks are allowed , the housemates made a makeshift sundial and put it in the garden. They then estimated the time. On the BB website it said they were only 27 minutes out. Now thats not bad, especially as there were no clocks to calibrate it off, and the high walls make it hard to gauge exactly where the sun rises and sets.

I think BB must be good for astronomy...you can stay inside and watch people who think they are stars or go outside and see real ones!

As for the sundial, I am impressed..I wouldn't have thought any of them would be able to spell the word let alone make one...accurately. That person would have been voted out pretty quickly...I am sure.

I'm sorry to disappoint you Scott but it aint too dark at Dreamworld and the surrounds. You would probably get darker skies on the outskirts of Newcastle than you would there. It's stuck about 3/4 the way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast which is only an hours drive and there is solid development all the way along the freeway with all those charming freeway lights that are put in to help people see that they are on a road. After Wooloongong/Sydney/Central Coast area and the Melbourne surrounds that area would probably be one of the worst light polluted areas in Australia.

Its a shame really as I remember fishing at Jocobs Well as a kid (which in halfway between the GC and Brisvegas) and it was as black as the insides of a coal mine.

Not meaning to change the topic to something better than BB but: That Jacob must have sure got around, and been a pretty enthusiastic digger. I know a Jacobs Well over here in the Wheatbelt of WA. Not a whole town or anything, just a well.

Roger.

I don't know what is worse? Big Brother or the fact that BB rates well for channel 10. The show is just a bunch of booooring people doing booooring stuff.
