Full Aperture Solar filter for 12" Scope

Hi guys,

I am wanting to make or buy a full aperture Solar Filter for my 12" for photographic use. I need something like a 38cm x 38cm piece.

The ideal would be that this is a photographic filter not a visual filter with a high transmission rating.

Wanting something like this:

http://www.baader-planetarium.com/so.../details_e.htm

Also - if anyone is happy to share, I am happy to buy the 50cm by 100cm version and split it in 2. It's 75 Euros so 35 Euros each.

John K.

Hi John,

I was just reading the Baader website (about to make my solar filter today) and they recommend a partial aperture filter for large scopes

I didn't say it can't be done, but just that the manufacturer recommended otherwise. There give reasons as to why on their website.

Guys,

Still looking for a piece of the 3.8 DN but has to be at least 38cm in diameter.

David, already have a 3.5" stopped solar filter. You will find that the most succesfull white light solar photos are taken generally at full aperture and even baader state "It can be sufficient to produce an "off axis filter". Sure, all ok for visual stuff, but my plan is go full apperture 12" with a 5 x Powermate and IR filter combo and even maybe OIII in there as well for even less light and more contrast!

Cheers,

Just wanting to make sure you were aware of all options, which it appears you are!
