Great news maybe we will have heard the last of daylight saving finally

Please I don't want this to be political it was only after I posted it that I saw the possible lead in so please treat it as I meant it just about daylight saving in QLD.

daylight saving is a curse-why anyone would want to have it,I see many on the Gold coast want it-I think QLD should give the Gold Coast to NSW,its only a headache QLD would be better off without it,and let it become part of NSW.

I think this should be mandated at a federal level (that DST continues for all), it annoys the hell out of me the way you Queenslanders think that you can ruin a nice summer night and force the morning light into my bedroom at unearthly hours.

In Brisbane the sun rises at 4:45am and sets at 6:45pm in mid-summer which IMO makes far less sense than a DST-adjusted 5:45am-7:45pm. What is the point in the sun rising so early when the vast majority of the population is asleep? Why not "transfer" that hour of daylight to the evening when people are active?

If anything, Brisbane is slightly too far east for their current timezone. I think shifting SEQ's timezone ahead half hour to GMT +10h30m would match Brisbane's longitude much better. The current solar noon is at approx 11:40am, a half hour timezone shift would bring it to 12:10pm with a corresponding shift in SR-SS times to a somewhat more logical timeframe.

You would rather that than an 'extra' hour of viewing/imaging in the evening? Interesting.
I prefer having the longer evening so I get more scope time before having to get some sleep for work in the morn.

I don't observe if I have an early start the next morning so it wouldn't make a difference from that respect. I would find the early sunrise to be very annoying and if I'm working late and want to observe afterwards, later sunsets/sunrises are preferred.

I'm with Terry, I fail to see why you guys enjoy seeing daylight at 4:30AM and the welcome a plunge in to darkness just after 6:30PM, I'd much rather see an extra couple of hours tacked on to enjoy later in the day as we do in Tassie, perfect time to go for a bike ride, sailing, fishing, mow the lawns or dig in the garden.

Perhaps Campbell Newman will fix it, after all he's a good ole Tassie Boy, all that's needed is some financial incentive. (did I mention I'm glad he's up there and not here!!

Worth considering is the impact of latitude. In Queensland, one minute is is bright, next it is pitch black. Yikes! The Sun plunges rapidly. Southern Australia has a much longer dusk.

Yes, I'm a Daylight Saving supporter. One reason - more time if you have to get from work to a location to setup for the evening's observing.

From my Queensland background, I can say one problem is those working the land who work from sunrise to sunset. Add in daylight saving and they are not home in time for the 7pm ABC news.

The 2007 A C Neilson poll saw 59% in favour of DST, 30% against, 11% neutral or ‘don’t know’ – total for all Qld. SEQ was heavily in favour 69/20, the rest of Qld 52/36 against. (Source: Premier’s Department, Qld.)

I'd suggest you're only representing one Queensland view Warren. Even outside SEQ, there seems to be a big block of the population in favour, albeit in a minority.

How much time and money was wasted on the debate.... its like the gay debate, who cares what they do stop wasting money that needs to go elsewhere. Our country is not lined with gold, our income is not infinite. Stop debating useless topics and move on to better roads, health etc. I know its not that simple in many ways. Take a internet and mail in vote then go with majority and end of story, it takes like a week to do that.
