SMC and Tuc-47

Thought I'd share this one from a trip a few weeks back. While the telescope was setup taking a shot of the Eagle Nebula I had a spare camera and lens and pointed it towards the Small Magellanic Cloud.

Although Tuc-47 was on my list of things to photograph I had no idea where it was, well I guess I can tick that one off now

Pretty happy with the results, given this was just a junk shot while I was bored waiting for my telescope to finish. This was taken with a D90 and a 50mm standard lens on a normal tripod. Subs were 7 seconds at ISO1600. However 335 frames in total. No dark flat or bias. I'm sure I'm past the point of diminishing returns with frame numbers ehre.

Looks pretty good for a DSLR on a fixed tripod! Well done...

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks all for the kind words. My only problem is that now I want to go back and redo the shot with a D800 and my NEQ6, now that I've been teased at how well my crappy shot can turn out.

Nice capture Chris, especially from such a simple setup.
