My first ALMOST right image

Sorry for the SMALL size. This is an unmodified Canon 40D piggybacked on an ED80 on an HEQ5 Pro, just taken to validate my tracking, focus etc.

ONE shot only, short exposure (can't remember timing - I THINK 12 sec), unfiltered. Post-processed in MaxIm DL and PS CS5.1, mainly to remove the chromatic aberration from the Canon f/1.4 50mm lens and the light pollution.

Little steps lead to bigger ones... getting there SLOWLY. Tonight will be the ED80 pointed at M 8 for multiple exposures.

My monitor is set for Adobe colour space RGB, so not sure if it will show over-exposed on some monitors etc.

Comments, criticism STRONGLY encouraged please!

That's really very good. You have the basics well covered. If you are worried about hotpixels and chromatic aberrations you might want to use Camera Raw that comes with PS. There are a lot of lenses that it can correct for distortion, CA and even uneven illumination/vignetting. As you already have PS5 check it out. It should be Camera Raw 6.x or 7.x.

Looking good Lewis. As Marc says you seem to have the basics sorted.

Are you guiding? Even if not I think you are set to go capturing M8 through the ED80

Good luck. I look forward to seeing the results

Thanks guys. Appreciated.

Not guiding at all. Still haven't decided if I want more wires hanging everywhere Might go old school off-axis... MIGHT.

Still deciding whether to ring mount the ED80 onto the 180 Mak, or side by side, or just sell the Mak (though I like it, a lot, it's not a refractor LOL).
