Angry Laptop "Stolen"

My laptop is missing!
As some may know I had a problem with my laptop. It blew up, well sort of.
Anyway I took to a friend who has a computer shop. He had a look and said it was most probably the motherboard.
But he said he could not fix it and he would have to send it to HP,
I got a quote it cost me $140 just for HP to look at it!!!
Anyway I got a price back of $462. It will be all fixed. Ok I said bit cheaper than buying a new one.
This period was around two months. I have cut the story short a bit. Anyway I got a phone call last night from my friend (Gary).
I said, “what’s up” Well he said bad news. HP or the place wear the laptop is been fixed has been robbed!!
My laptop had been stolen with lots of other computers. I said “WHAT”
It’s been over two months and now you tell me my laptop is gone!!
And yes its stolen, I can’t believe it!!
Gary had paid for the laptop as it had been fixed.
I have not paid him as I was waiting to get it back.
So he is out of pocket and I don’t have a laptop.
Suppose to be in the hands of some insurance company.
He said I should get another laptop but what sort I have no idea.
What a drama!!!!
Anyone with any idea what mite happen could you please let me know
Either by post or PM

If I were you I'd get in touch with my own insurance company (whoever does your household contents insurance) and explain the situation. I believe you may need to make the claim against them, and then they can persue it with the other insurer.

Your friend's claim for recovery of his payment should be a separate issue from yours.

I could be wrong, but some insurance firms will not cover items that are lost/stolen outside your house. However you will need to check with them 1st.

Technically the 3rd party company's insurance should cover the lost item. Just to be on the safe side, I would recommend keeping records of phone calls made on followup's on how things are progressing/tracking so that if you get the run around you have your efforts documented.

You may also want to see any contracts between your friend (Gary) and the 3rd party computer repairer to ensure their are no clauses about lost/stolen items being their responsbility etc.

Sorry for being paronoid. Let is know how it goes.

PS: 2 months seems to be an awfully long time to have a Notebook repaired. I'd check to make sure your not being given the run around either.

Personally I would be demanding for a replacement and give them a deadline of 2 weeks.
