MY first Jupiter...

Got to say Im pretty happy with this, even though it is a bit distorted, and probably over processed...

I used a Cheap 32mm Plossl mounted to my Sony video camera, and registax for processing. I think It might have been at the edge of the eyepiece, hence the oval shape :-)

I was amazed at the detail that finally came out after the last processing step. Early on it didnt look to promising. I might have to give the QuickCam another go tonight, if the clouds stay away.

Excellent and well done

I hope to image my first Jupiter before Summer. You give me a great deal of motivation and inspiration.

Cheers

Nice one Toc.

It's interesting to see that you ended up with an oval shaped planet. Another video camera user has the same problem at the moment. Chrissyo posted this one the other day. Maybe you two should have a bit of a chat to see if you can work out what is happening.

Hi , Thats a good image.

The distorted image looks like its due to to non square pixel size of the dv format (I presume its dv) to get the right size view for a computer screen you need to scale the horizontal by 1.09 so a 720 x 576 becomes 787x576. You can also do a check by videoing a perfect circle and then transfering the video to the computer using the same system as you use for imaging. then check the image of the circle If its not a true circle then measure it using something like the measure tool in Gimp and it will give you the correct horizontal scaling factor.

Took me a while to figure this one out too! I hope it fixes your image

Mike

ps I just tried 1.09 it on your image and it worked a treat

Onya Toc, I'm in awe of anyone who can get planet images from a camcorder at the eyepiece, when I've tried it's just a mess of reflections etc.

cheers,
