What did I see?

It was 9.50 pm when I went outside to view the moon naked eye when I noticed a bright orange light in the eastern sky over Bundaberg Qld.the light was travelling from east to south. There was no engine noise or smoke coming from the object no navigational lights as one would expect from aircraft no smoke was evident it was travelling relatively slow for about three minutes when it suddenly disappeared as if someone just switched it off. I am certain it was no aircraft or a meteorite or space junk reentering earths atmosphere .So did anyone witness this orange light in the sky or perhaps shed some knowledge to what I saw?

Satellite? In a semi-polar orbit with solar panels angled just so to catch the sun for the three minutes you saw it? That's just a guess.

According to my astro charting software which includes satellites at that precise time a satellite by the name of SL-14 R/B (ROCKET BODY) was making a pass above the moon across the east and setting in the south

Thanks Ourkind I would like to think it was a satellite but the size of the light was about the size of a orange which led me to believe it was not a satellite. It definetly was not a helicopter and since posting I have learned that the same phennonemon I have described was seen 3 times in Childers which is 45 km south of Bundaberg.I do not believe in flying saucers (not yet anyway ) that there has to be some explanation.

Sounds too bright for a satellite Manny, so probably a plane. They can certainly look like a bright planet/something dodgy at times - have seen many like this. The angle of the plane can hide the flashing lights.

As I said, I have seen many, and I look and look, and think what the heck is that, then after a period of time, which can be like 5 minutes, all is revealed.

Hi Liz
I know what you mean about planes looking like something else ,but I can confidetently say it was no airplane or any other air craft. It is hard to explain but all your senses are telling you this is something extrordinary and defies at this moment in time any logical explanation ,if I didn't see it for myself and someone else was telling me this, I too would be saying it was this or it may have been that but to have actually witnessed it you can only think what an incredible universe we have and how little we understand of it.

Carl Sagan famously said "extarordinary claims require extraordinary evidence".

Unfortunately this is something individuals and groups claiming to have seen a UFO always fail to provide.

Neil Degrasse Tyson also says "remember what the U in UFO stands for".
I'm intrigued though... Fighter aircraft at extreme altitude going afterburner wouldn't be audible on the ground and would shut down after a few seconds.

Agreed and until that U becomes an I we will never know.

There are so many things up there it is impossible not to see something.
The other night we saw the ISS going over led by a dimmer satellite on the same track with another coming N-S that looked like they were on a collision course.
If we point the scope straight over head we see lots of satellites going over.
