Meeting with Mike (iceman)

Well as most of you know I spent the weekend in Sydney, had to go to a cousins wedding, which was nice and something a bit different.

While I was there, I rang Mike and arranged to meet him at his home. Got to meet his Wife and two children and even got a piece of artwork from his son of the solar system. I was limited to how much time I could spend and was really glad I made the effort to drive out to Gosford despite getting a little lost in Gosford.

Mikes family are really nice people and Mikes wife, Kate agrees with my partner that she is an astro widow.

While I was there Mike got out his scope and solar filter and his various eyepiece collection. We perused the sun for a while and I got to see a nice sunspot that was present on the face. Thanks for that Mike really thought that was great.

After that we went down stairs and checked out the work room for Ice in space. Nice big screen and computer to work on. We checked out the site and discussed a few things that had transpired while I was not connected to a computer. Saw some great shots that you people have been submitting.

Anyway despite the distinct shortness of time available (1 hour to chat as I had to get back to Sydney to pick up my parents) I really enjoyed meeting Mike and his family. I am sure that he would have liked more time to spend with me also. Sorry Mike that it was a bit rushed but I am still glad I made the trip. Hope to see you at Wiruna. Thanks again for letting me into your home.

yeh was great meeting you Paul, thanks for taking the time to drive all that way just for an hour! Always great to put a face to the name and the online personality that you get to know.

There is another child too, but she was asleep in bed

Shame you couldn't stay for longer, into the night for some observing.. however a storm came through Saturday arvo and ruined any chance of observing so it was probably for the best

Hope you can make the effort to get out to Wiruna, catch up with some more IceInSpace'ers.

Thanks again for coming up!
