Cocoon Nebula

Hi folks
Imaged using the 17" CDK and U16M from Sierra Remote, this is an HaLRGB image consisting of 8:6:2.5:2.5:2.5 hours (total 21.5 hours).

Interesting challenge deciding on how the dust should change colour from the fringes of the cocoon to the outer areas. Settled on this version in the end.

Clear skies!

Martin

Thanks again.

Marco - what do you find unusual about this image? My approach to astrophotography is not one that has me trawling the internet to find out how other people have done it. I process an image based on what the (calibrated) image data is telling me as a the most important baseline step. After that, image processing in my mind is then down to the author.

cheers
Martin

Great resolution Martin on the background... incredible the galaxies with their structures in evidence.

All the best,
Leo

Hi Martin, actually I was (favorably) impressed by the result, I usually see other cocoon images with more intrusive impact of the field stars and the dust around the Ha core looking more like a dark patch of the sky, in your version I see the dust around looking quite 3D and more as in the foreground, not as usual seen as background dark area with no details on it. I am not sure I am able to express this feeling in english, as I said I like your processing. Or did you understand something different form my comment?
Clear skies
Marco

Lovely image Martin. Love the smokey look to the gas at the boundary of the reflection and emission. Excellent work.

Hey Marco - no problem. Not that I wish to insult your excellent English! but I did misunderstand your meaning. Apologies.
