Saturn & Jupiter July 6th 2012

Hi All,

Imaged Saturn last evening in reasonable seeing.

Have attached 1 "R" channel & 1 RGB data set along with an animation of all R channel data.

It seems at the moment that the only detail to be seen, regarding discrete white spots within the NEB and great storm remnant, are only really visible in the R channel.

I note in my R channel image 08:23:20 UTC, that there are 2 white spots close together on the Southern edge of the great storm remnant just to the preceding side of the CM. This feature is quite prominent in the attached animation.

Imaged Jupiter this morning in good seeing for the alt.

Have 5 807nm IR & 4 RGB data sets.

I note 2 well resolved tiny white oval in the STB, the SEB is darker than is the NEB. Of particular note regarding the NEB, the Northern edge of the NEB has a thin, smooth band of material this is a different colour to any other band represented on Jupiter, an almost copper colour.

As mentioned in previous data sets over this last week, there is a faint band, pink or salmon, in the EZ.

There is also a line of irregularly spaced lighter coloured spots along the Northern edge of the SEB, they are in the RGB & 807nm IR but probably more prominent in the IR.

The Southern edge of the NEB is very chaotic with many features that seem to impinge into the EZ.

Have also attached animations of both the RGB & IR data.

Thanks for looking.

Regards
Trevor

Great images Trevor, thanks for the regular updates.

I particularly like the Jupiter images. With the wealth of detail visible, it seems to be truly "open season" for you at least.

Thanks very much Ray, yes, amazing level of activity especially when thinking back to how bland Jupiter looked last apparition with the faded SEB. Unfortunately this apparition is not a favorable one for Australia, for my location it will only rise to 35 degrees alt.

Thanks very much Ivan, so much activity, truly hi res images of this would look incredible. I have had a good run with it so far but at very low alt the data will always be low res.
