When not in use, store your scope with dust caps ON.
Rogerio Marcon shared these pictures of a 10"Dob that wasn't stored correctly.

I bet the views were sweet though.

Can you imagine how sick in the stomach you'd feel when you first prised the aperture dust cap off and saw THAT.
