Cats Paw with 60D & 135mm

Continuing the run of 60D & 135mm images. Taken in May, 18x180sec, ISO640 @ f/3.2.

Again I need to look at a more stable ballhead with flexure showing in the full image. One thing I've found is with the size of the 60D chip its challenging to get the jpegs reduced to the forum size without losing quality. I like to resize to about 1100 - 1200 pixels in dimension. Unfortunately that requires a quality of less than 4 when saving in PS. And that really sucks with artifacts. With that in mind, here it reduced to only 900 pixels in longest dimension.

Awesome shot Paul, I have been meaning to get a 135mm prime for some time, looks like I'm going to have to fix that deficiency in my kit.

I agree, I've been reducing to 800 to keep it up to about 70-80% quality, but the problem then is the stars seem to get blurry at 800
I have also noticed that I have been able to upload 250k jpegs even tho the official limit is 200k

Ok, it looks like the site does some resizing as well. I just tried to upload this on at 265kb and it uploaded at 206kb .... which is still over the limit

Oh damn, I had wondered about that
I noticed one of my 250k uploads showed as 83k on site!
I'm going to have to find a decent off-site host and just use IIS for thumbs.

Nice Paul. Colours look great.

For image reduction I use Irfan View. It works a treat with minimal artifacts produced.

Thanks Paul. I've never tried it for that, usually stick with PS. I'll give it a go.

Very nice image Paul. Photobucket could be an option for you, that is what I use.

Thanks Ross and Narayan.

Thanks Lester, I've not considered an offsite posting, I might have to. Its a shame to lose the quality when reducing to 200kb. I'll give Paul's suggestion ago first and see how it goes.
