Well the transit has been and gone and what a day it has been!
After hearing all the dire predictions of 60+mph winds, snow sleet and cloud, the day here in Hawaii dawned clear and bright. Made it up to the summit of MK with about 1 hour to go before the transit and spent some time exploring the Keck site and Subaru site before relocating to the group which includes the Gemini North and setting up to observe 1st contact.
Managed some nice obs, couldn't image as the wind was stil at 35-40mph. Moved down to the MK Visitor centre, which was good as 14000ft is hard work, hard to think straight! The VIS is only at 9000ft!
Watched most of the transit from there and did a little imaging which I will process and process tomorrow.
Moved back down to the beach at Waikaloa to observe 3rd and 4th contact which was excellent.
Both the beach and the VIS were greatas there were lots of non astro types and the spirit was really great. I think there would have been 4-500 people at the VIS and lots more further down the mountain.
Met lots oof freindly US astronomer both amatuer and professional as well as some from Canada, UK, Colombia, Mexico and others.
All of them want to come to Oz now!
Overall a great day and well worth the trip for the experience
