Astro society held its monthly lunar night last night, high altitude cirrus cloud sweeping in hampened viewing but still it was very enjoyable . High visitor numbers prevented any serious observing as each guest was taken to each scope for a tutorial . Unlike the night before planetary/lunar viewing was restricted to small windows of opportunity but this and tours of the bright DSOs plus sat watching provided ample entertainment for the guests . Most of the night the moon was surrounded by a ring of cloud ive attached a pic , impressive sight .
What a pretty shot stuart! That is a lunar halo isn't it? It occurs when there are cirrus clouds about. How bright was the halo with the naked eye? I've never seen one before.
