Great skies

Just returned from the Darling Downs (west of Toowoomba, S Qld) where they have fantastic dark skies. Took my 10 inch Dob of course for its first trip. The views of Omega Centauri just blew me away. Far better with this Dob than I ever had with my old 8 inch. I was a little disappointed with the performance on Alpha Centauri which only just resolved the double, and Jupiter which showed the bands but only just. Maybe I have more work to do on colliminating.Any ideas on what this telescope should show on Jupiter. It was directly overhead, with a little shimmer in the air.I was using 70X

A 250mm (10") Dob should easily split Alpha Centauri and the bands on Jupiter would be very obvious (a higher magnification would be better tho). Maybe you are not collomated, but you stated 'Omega Centauri blew me away' an uncollomated telescope would reduce the Omega centauri 'WOW' factor.

Glad I have been of absolutely no help

I'd be looking at the collimation too. I know even when mine is a "tad" out, it can easily split Alpha Cen with 200mm, in fact I think even 100m could do it. Jupiter's belts should be plainly obvious.
