Milky Way Timelapse with Canon 5D Mk II and Samyang 14mm

A quick test from my backyard last night, with the Canon 5D Mk II and Samyang 14mm.

Really impressed with the lens, such a huge FOV.

ISO3200, 30s exposures, f/2.8.
309 exposures.

Quite easy to use, used liveview to focus on a bright star and locked the shutter on the intervalometer for 30s exposures.

Processed in Lightroom and Sony Vegas. The lens fogged up a few times but it was good to get some practise in again.

Best to watch in HD to avoid the compression artifacts:

Thanks

Very cool. Just cements my want for this lens.
Interesting effect with the clouds doing that fade in/out thing.

Yes - good question.
The camera moves away from the trees!

Anyway - I really like that video.
Well done.

Niiiice. Great lens, hey. I imagine the panning/zooming effect is done in PP? Looks good.

Great time lapse Mike. It looks like a winner setup.

I did not know you could do panning effects in PP. That's good to know.

Greg.

Very cool
I've had Vegas for a while now, and never really looked into it's full capabilities yet. Thanks.

I can see the Malin category on 'Animated Sequences' is going to be an interesting one this week - competition is stiff!

You should do well Mike - I like this.

cheers
Martin

Thanks guys, it was really just a quick test of the lens at home. I would've liked to travel to a better location (darkier skies, better foreground) but my wife is away and I had the kids at home so couldn't leave them.

I'm really happy with the lens.

Sony Vegas is like Photoshop - it can do so much but I've only figured out how to use a very small part of it

Shows a lot of promise Mike, very smooth. Under dark skies with a brighter more colourful Milky Way that composition with the trees would look great

Yeh I'm only using the v10 Platinum HD one ($100 or whatever it is).

Just right-click on the event in your video timeline and choose "pan/crop".

Very nice indeed, would you mind posting a full frame so I can see the FOV, as I might get one.
