NO I will just quit it at the first sign of them trying to charge. I just had another look and they are trialing a pay to Promote your post to make it stand out.

It was inevitable, they have to look for more ways to monetise the site. With a user base that big, there's people that will pay.

Mainly aimed at marketers, big companies, and people with something to sell (artists, photographers, etc).

Unlikely the average user would do it.

Hi,

I've dropped out of FB last week as I felt it just wasn't moi, I'm too much of a Gen A-.

So from a sort of smug and self-contented rest-home point of view , this will be fascinating. How much value will be placed on the hot post?

Cheers

I would drop it like a hot potato. If they cannot make money from advertising then I am not going to pay to use the site.

I agree David. I would rather have a couple of real friends, instead of 20 virtual ones!

I have made some real friends from what you call virtual friends.
I don't think it is as cut and dried as you make out.
I think over all, the world is a much better place due to the internet and Social Media.
Take iceinspace for instance, lots of Genuine Friendships have been nurtured on here.
You could say that iceinspace is a smaller version of FB and all the other social media sites.
It is just another form of communication.
I really think that the many people who enjoy FB can't be that wrong in being a member .

People will pay no problem as it's already established. Same as if Google started charging for searches. People would winge for sure initially but still use it. Personally I'd charge a small fee for sending emails. The internet would the better place it used to be. Way less spam and more functional.

Obviously, a few of you have not read the article ,only the head line.
The charges where for highlighting posts and other services.

"GetALife"

I think these social media pages in some areas have caused more harm than good, but that is my personal opinion

Agree.

Facebook has a serious issue IMO - Too much information moving too fast. For example I decreased my usage at the point where interesting things from people I wanted to hear from was dropping off the list too quick due to the flood of information from so many sources. The good stuff was getting lost. From a business perspective I'd pay real $$$ to get my products/services to "stick" rather than vanishing within a few minutes, if I found there was a return on that investment.

Roger.

If I have to pay to search I will just use a different search engine. There are plenty out there. Google isn't the best either, just the most popular.

Actually, I am getting sick of embedded ads in the text, so maybe it is time to find a new search engine anyway.

But then, you haven't been on Facebook and perhaps do not know what I mean By "friends" I meant those people who you do not actually interact with, in any form.

Quite right.

FB will never charge to use the service. They'll continue to earn money through advertisers and premium services.
