Oh seriously, that is as old as moses, I prefer Intel inside, Idiot Outside (also quite old but I have been in the IT industry for 28 years now and have heard thousands of them).

I thought it was funny and I had not heard it before.
And I worked in IT support for 14 years.

We just generally referred to such jobs as "Carbon Error"

Closely related (I used to work in radar not IT)

We used to occasionally write things up as "digital errors"

Once the shift was over we could write up that the digit (air traffic controllers digit that is) was replaced and the fault cleared.
