Talking Hello, Y'all

Hi Iceman and the rest of y'all. Just found this site today and got registered. It looks like my kind of site. Loved the astrophotos Iceman. A little background: After 25 years in New Orleans, I moved to the relitively dark skies of Texas. Been interested in most anything to do with space and astromomy for about as far back as I can remember. I'm a member of a local Astronomy Club and volunteer my time at an Observatory about 20 miles south of my house that is open to the public every Saturday night. I own a 90/1000 refractor and a pair of 10x50 binoculars. I'm afraid that the Binoc's get used more than the refractor. But I am qualified to operate an 18" fork mounted Newtonian Reflector and the 16" SCT in located at the Obs. so I get a good bit of viewing time. Looking forward to reading and learning about astronomy from the other end.

By the way the Swamp Fox handle has been around since it was hung on me when in the service. I grew up in lower Mississippi and all those northerners started calling me that. But its ok as it turns out the Obs were I volunteer is actually located right in the middle of a swamp. Alligators and all.

Hi there, welcome to the forums and thanks for signing up!

I guess you don't need a big telescope of your own when you can use the ones at the observatory.. The closest observatory to me isn't really a domed observatory as such.. they've got a 20" reflector though.. i've looked through it a few times and the views are amazing.

I've had my handle "iceman" since about 1990 when I got into computers and belonged to a coding/cracking group on the commodore 64! It's been with me since then through online gaming etc.

Anyway welcome again and bring some friends back with you!

Thanks Paul. It's a nice site and I enjoy reading about what you folks down there are up to. It's also a bit comfortable to learn that we all seem to have the same types of problems.

The funny thing about this hobby is that everyone starts from the same position. Head up wondering whats up there. If everyone remembers this little fact, then life on the forum will remain happy.
