of his passing one year ago on 14 April 2011. Scott, you are still missed by your sister's Tracey and Jodie. They were pleased to see the announcement below from ASNSW.
"In honour of his memory, the ASNSW is proud to announce the inaugural Scott Mellish Amateur Sketching or Drawing Competition. This competition will be held annually at the South Pacific Star Party and aims to promote the art of Sketching and Drawing within the world-wide amateur astronomical community."
Jodie and I still hear you about the house Scott (we have his ashes) but could you please stop banging on the door early in the morning...it wasn't the dogs or cat, we checked...and it is Jodie's birthday tomorrow (mine is 3 days later) so we will leave you a bit of cake and a drink...
We will return to your favourite observing spot to scatter your ashes very soon Scott...
see that the thread I posted in the observing forum was closed...I thought that it was appropriate to have it there as well as there was news about the new sketching competition but guess I was wrong...thanks once again PHC and jjjnettie but guess others didn't care...sorry for intruding in this time of sorrow for Scott's family.
Sorry, just disappointed at the response and as it is my birthday today and no recognition from the site (have never had one in all the time I have been a member), feeling a little deflated and unseen.

Reason: apologies
I didn't know Scott personally but as I noted at his passing I had heard much of him from mutual friends and from articles he had posted in ASNSW Universe. He was indeed a very knowledgeable and talented amateur astronomer. What a wonderful idea to have the competition in his name.
Best wishes to his family and his friends.

i met scott at spsp a couple of years ago,he was doing a talk on galaxy clusters and his sketching technic a very interesting talk.i know have started sketching not to the success of scott but am getting there.he will be sadly missed...
Hey, Scott, yesterday was a bitter-sweet day for me mate. It marked the anniversary of your passing. It also marked the day I was told that I sketch I did using the technique you shared with me winning the competition held in your honour. Your technique.
Every time I finish a sketch my first thought is "I wonder what Scott would think of it?".
Every time I focus on an object with so much averted vision work I think "Oh you ripper of a technique!" and relish the ease of being able to lay down the detail.
Thanks mate for your generousity. It is never forgotten by me.
