Just back this morning from a month in South and Central America, so I thought I'd share a few aircraft related photo's I took on our travels.
1. The very first photo I took on the trip, snapped through the window in Santiago airport in Chile, where JT was waiting to help celebrate the first QANTAS Sydney to Santiago flight the following day.
I believe this particular 707 was the first jet aircraft delivered to QANTAS back in 1964. Obviously he's had it repainted in the original QANTAS scheme. Note the rego, N707JT.
Sorry about the quality, the photo was taken through two windows, haze, and bad sunlight, but I thought it was worth sharing.
2. The second pic was taken at a lodge we stayed at in Salcedo, about 100kms south of Quito in Ecuador. This Fokker F28 suffered an aborted take-off and subsequently ran off the runway and was written off. It was moved to the grounds of the lodge, keeping company with various interesting bits of mechanicalia.
3. An AeroGal Airbus A319 at Quito Mariscal Airport ready for another flight to the Galapagos Islands.
4. La Candela Restaurant, San Jose, Costa Rica.
I discovered that the national sport of Costa Rica is planespotting! We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon, and as we taxied we noticed hundereds of people around the airport perimeter, some even standing on their car roofs, just watching planes come and go. This restaurant was packed. It is built within metres of the airport fence, and has balconies for watching the planes. It even has an old DeHaviland Caribou built-in downstairs!
Around various airports I saw a number of types I'd never seen in the flesh before, such as a Mirage F1 parked at Guayaquil.
