Its a nice gesture to welcome new members but it would also be nice for the new member to introduce himself and say hello aswell.....

Maybe Mike might consider making a thread where new members are invited to say hello.......this could be done as part of the registration....once registered a little pop or post can incourage the new member to go to a particular thread and say hello......

eg.....Once registered: welcome "StrikersMom" to IceinSpace forum....please feal free to introduce yourself as a new member under the "New Members" thread in general chat.

There could be a huge influx of new members (once they realise I am here..lol.) so it may be worth considering.

I think it's a sound idea to post a welcoming thread before they do, it might encourage the shy-er types to post and say "hi", whereas normally they might just read and not post.

Forums are a new thing for some people, and they can be intimidating if you're new to them and joining a new community (to you) that might have already been established for a while.
