Thumbs up Beacons in the Sky

The two brightest planets in our Solar System, Venus and Jupiter, shining brightly like beacons in the sky as they joined for a conjunction in March 2012.

Taken on the 12th March, the Sunset colours and clouds in the sky complete the scene in what was a stunning dusk and sunset over Brisbane Water at Gosford Waterfront.

The images have been cropped to 3:1 and 2:1 panoramas.

Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105mm lens.

I love the colours Mike reflections, composition, boats.. all nice.

I'd prefer to see less distortion in the first ... perhaps a perspective/warp in Photoshop to straighten the lines/reflections? But each to their own - you may like it.

Thanks Dave - the planets were certainly a small part of this great scene

Thanks Roger. There's definitely some distortion and the masts being near the edge of the frame didn't help. I'm quite surprised by the amount of distortion with the lens on the 5DMk2.

I might have to re-correct some of it in Photoshop, it is a bit distracting.

Use DPP's third tab to correctly fix distortions and lens aberrations!

Yep, agree with Houghy, very striking images indeed, reckon they stand alone as just great images and any astro content is incidental to the feel of these vistas, at least in my opinion.

Stunningly Beautiful.
