ok I'm 54 (meaning cautious and paypal dumb) and want to pay an IIS member for a piece of astro gear using paypal.
I look up google and 2 websites with paypal sign up come up as below.
I am guessing the first looks legit and not sure about the second which states official paypal site. So IISpacers is the first site good to go? replies appreciated.
It is a ' legitimate ' login page .... look down at the lower right hand corner ... you will see a ' lock ' icon..... put your mouse pointer on that lock .. it will show it is ' Authenticated by VeriSign.Inc .
I also use a PayPal Security Key Card ( Unique to Your Account only ) .... which generates 6 random numbers ....these must be entered to allow access to the Account .... without it ... you cannot get in.
You can use this page to ' Create a New Account '
I've been using PayPal since ' Noah ' was a boy ... 100% on all transactions..... never had a problem.

Yep Troy is right there , I have had Paypal for years and have never had a problem with it , the good thing is , is that you can buy gear off Astromart / Cloudy nights with 100% confidence , and a 100% money back guarentee .
You cant beat it , and a deal is done in seconds , via Paypal .
One thing large transactions incure a 10% GST type charge .

Unless I really need something badly I will not buy from anyone who doesn't use PayPal as it is as secure as can be. Especially with the PayPal Security Key Card.
One of the reasons I continue to use PayPal is they charge my credit card in AU$. The bank charges 3.5% on top if the debit is in US$. I echo all the above positive experiences with PP.
I always choose PayPal for purchases if it is available. I purchase from all over the world in various hobbies and never had an issue. Best two benefits: It's instant payment and it's secure!
One thing to note with paypal though(it's not a bad thing, just annoying) is if you intend to use it overseas and want things sent to an international address half the time it wont allow it. It's not so much PP more the secure payment operators like Sage pay who see the address isn't the same as your PP address so deny the payment. I haven't found a way to get around this.
The other annoying part of this is PP Australia wont allow you to edit an address to be anything other than an Aussie one, it's kind of a dumb little circle that could be easily fixed which has the end result of not being able to use PP fairly often.
Thankfully it doesn't affect payments made to people just from online stores with overprotective security. But to be honest these days I only use PP for purchasing secondhand.
Just something to think about if you ever go overseas but still use an Aussie bank to pay for things.
