Yes civility is lacking when it comes to anonymous reply posting. You Tube is horrendous for it.

The replies on the io9 site were fine. The YouTube ones are where comedy gold strikes, page, after page, after page.

Stunning!

Amazing some of the stuff in there from a technical point of view. Lovelly damping of the launch rotation at 45 sec. (I never knew it overshot from the previous videos you often see).

Amazing how both SRB's land near each other and what looks like Nasa guys in boats in the background nearby to collect them (hurry up b4 someone else gets em!).

And to think the engineers back in the 70's (probably) didn't have this level of "visual" feedback to ensure that a launch was successful. Relying on no doubt moutains of calculations and permutations/combinations of what could go wrong (and without the computing power of today without an enormous budget).

Thanks for showing us!! Quite frankly I would love to see it as an IMax type short video with the sound a key part.

Darrin...

Excellent find...

And on a related note... for the audio hoons amongst us...
You can listen to arguably the best audio recording ever made of
a shuttle launch on CD here:

http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Effects-...ref=pd_sim_m_1

You need to have some serious audio kit to do it justice,
but, you know... just putting it out there.

From memory, the master recording attempts to capture as
much of the audio spectrum (at the mic position) as possible.
We're talking 145db 1/8th Hz which is probably enough to precipitate
a violation of your underwear.

Help me out here people... SRB separation is a around 150,000 feet altitude and I assume there is still air at this altitude for audio waves to transfer to the microphone?

Clive, nice find there with those CDs. I've put them on the wish list.

That was cool!
A touch sluggish, it took 30 seconds to reach 500mph!
Thanks for the post!
