Hi, I've recenty purchased the above camera and need some help using it! I tried it on Mars last night. The only way I can get colour out of it is by using the yuy2 setting. I tried the y800 with the y800 codec and got B&W, also when I used this setting at 60 frames the avi has a fine grid over it. Can anyone help me with these problems?

Thank you

Hi I've got the DBK41 and went through a similar process. The grid you can see is the Bayer matrix in the camera. From memory the y800 is a B&W format, but you can apply the Bayer matrix colouring to it in Registax to restore the colour (I'm not sure how to do this in avistack). I do it this way to get the fastest frame rate from my camera, otherwise the DBK41 only gives me 8 fps. The other trick is to make sure you are writing out RGB32 or yuy2 to get colour.
Quite a bit of fiddling involved, but worth digging around the imaging source forums for help as well.
regards,
Andrew.

I'd suggest using Firecapture to debayer any SHORT Y800 AVI's (smaller than 1.8 GIG) &/or Autostakkert for big Y800 files. Those 2 programs use the best available algorithms to debayer, where as Registax uses a low quality QUICK algorithm.

YUY2 + unspecified is still my favorite way to capture but 30FPS limited. Use it in good seeing; Y800 for average or less seeing.

Thanks for your replies,

asimov, I have been playing around with Autostakkert and it does a good job. Does it also de-rotate the frames? Also how do you re-align the channels. Registax can do this in the wavelet section?

Good question. I don't know if AS!2 derotates or not. It's certainly not a manual option that I've seen yet. It might do it automatically though. Drop Emil a line to find out. He can be reached here: http://www.astrokraai.nl/contact.php

Yes RGB align can be found under functions on the wavelett page of Registax.
