Chasing Aurora in the Yukon

I suppose this fits under solar system?

As some of you will know (you do now), as part of my return visit to Scotland in April I took a detour via Canada and am currently in the middle of nine weeks capturing images and timelapse footage of the aurora. Mountains, aurora and snow are my three favourite things in the world (that aren't people) so I'm having a ball! :-)

You can read my week 3 update on my site, or you can get the images without words at philhart.smugmug.com.

Enjoy!

cheers
Phil

Some great images there Phil!

It looks nearly as cold as this summer in Sydney.

thanks all.

if the weather here was a little more reliable, i could do it in less than nine weeks but at least not as bad as sydney! we have had rain once (*very* unusual for feb) which was a problem for the camera permanently setup outside.. dry snow does not create as much of an issue!

cheers
Phil

Great stuff Phil. Went to chena in Alaska in March. Took some aurora shots and did some sledding also. Was the greatest thing I have done on my life's list of things to do before I die. Was out at night getting my shots and it was -38c at 3am and was the first time I had seen them. Seeing yours shots (better than mine) brought back all my great times. I even got to go with a friend on a snow mobile flat out on fresh powder snow on over a frozen river. All I can say is good on you and enjoy your trip. I am in now hurry to curl up my toes till I get back their in the Winter again. You can see my pics on my web page at the bottom of my post.

Regards
Mardy

I'm very jealous too, Phil. I got a few days of clear skies and a couple of nice auroral displays in Norway recently, but 9 weeks would be amazing!

Cheers,
Rick.
