Good spots to go camping with the scope near Brisbane???

Hi All

I am very new to this ( had a scope for a whole 2 days now). I got it for the wife to use as she showed some interest and for something we can do togeather. I am also into photography.

I was thinking it would be good to pack the scope and cameras into the 4wd and head away from all the street lights and gum trees that surround our yard.

Just dont know where to go. We have a capable 4wd and all the gear to camp self sufficiently so I was hoping someone could point us in the right direction. Also just so u know the whole story we have a 10mth old little girl but she usually sleeps well so as long as we can set up camp next to where we will be setting up the scope it shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Phil

Lake Somerset Holiday Park may suit you. There are plenty of camping spaces as well as hot showers and flushing toilets.
I see in their ad they also have free wifi too. $24 a night for camping. You can also book into one of their cabins too.

+1 for the Lake Somerset Holiday Park. Not a bad spot at all. JJJ knows the good spots.

If you are willing to travel a larger distance, contact the Maidenwell Pub. The Publican will let patrons camp out the back. Nice little town and very dark skies.

Goomburra - top of Cunnighams Gap - super dark and there's some good open spots.

Wyaralong Dam - Scenic Rim Astro Assoc use that one - see the next SAS mag (Event Horizon) for pic of that one.

Leyburn Dark Sky site used by Southern Astro Society - also in Event Horizon mag
