New Canon 5D mark iii announcement expected this week

The Canon rumour mill seems to be in overdrive. The rumours about the Nikon D800 proved to be mostly correct.

If so then if you have been waiting for the new 5D mark iii it'd be an idea to keep an eye on it and your favourite camera dealers number on speed dial for a preorder.

22mp, 61AF, dual memory, 3.2 inch screen.

I wonder if it has some upgraded video as well.

It should be out by tomorrow morning.

US$3499.

Here's the leaked full spec sheet:

The rumours so far seem pretty accurate. TEDs site says CF card. The dual memory slots expected seems to be an important feature for a lot of people.

Posted in the other sub-forum!

Will hopefully be putting a deposit down today at some stage, if I can find a place with an SKU.

Not quite understanding Canon's mode of thinking lately... 1 series with lower MP count than 5 series. I'm holding off in hope of the rumoured 1Dxs.
The 1Ds3 and 1D4 are good enough for now.

The 2 companies Nikon and Canon seemed to have done a crossover.
Nikon went for the high resolution market that the 5D mark ii was king in and Canon looks like its gone after the high ISO low noise market the Nikon was king in.

Its like each is competing with the earlier models of each others strengths and its made them cross paths.

Also I think they are going to release more models as one camera do it all is a bit like telescopes - no one camera does it all perfectly.

Nikon will put out a D400 full frame lower mp high ISO performance low price and perhaps Canon will put out a high mp 5D type camera later on. Who knows. It would be cool if Canon pumped out 2 models tomorrow. That would catch everyone off guard and please both of the main segments of the market where one segment wants high megapixel resolution and one wants fast frames per second rates and high ISO performance.

It looks like a solid improvement over the 5D mark ii. Not revolutionary but certainly evolutionary.

The main thing of interest is probably the improved high ISO performance. That would be handy for night time lapse or perhaps Milky Way shots. But then if you don't use a really wide lens and shoot less than about 30 seconds you are going to have to use a mount to track anyway in which case noise isn't an issue as you can shoot lower ISOs for longer.
