TIF opening issues?

Hi all,

I have had this problem for a little while now and have never come up with a solution for it, mind you I'm not overly tech savvy either.

Basically I can't get some TIF files to open in photoshop(PS5) and registax. In PS it gives me this message...
"Could not open because not enough RAM"
... and in Registax I get an "Access Violation" or "unsupported file type" which is odd because some TIF files do open, I generally have the issue with the saved TIFs that come out of Deep Sky Stacker.
Also this hasn't always been the case, everything was working fine up to a point so I guess there is a cause I just don't know what.

If anyone has run into this before and can help me out it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks
Jarrod.

Can you RAR/Zip it and upload/send it over or give us a link to it. Maybe you're short on RAM or the file is corrupted.

The automatically saved tiff files out of Deep Sky Stacker are 32bit (well mine are anyway) and some programs cannot read them. I save the finished stack as 16bit files and then have no problems opening in PS.
Hope this helps

I can't get the zip to upload so it's uploading elsewhere I hope this link works...

Never mind the poor picture I'm just using it as an example.

I don't think I'm short on RAM as I did a few checks last time I was trying to solve the issue. It could be that DSS is corrupting the files.

@ Greg, this is true but it was working without any problems last year which is why I don't know whats going on.

edit to add:
This was also happening when I was trying to save a tif from a raw file in PS, the tif then would not open in registax.

Can't seem to open the link. Some warning about quota/size too big.

Hmm... sorry about that, I can't seem to compress the file enough to post the zip folder here. The site I have used before has been pulled.

Maybe this one will work.

But like I said I it happens when saving RAW files to tif as well so I think it's a larger issue.

Managed to download the file. It was ok to open as a TIFF file both in my image viewer and PS CS5. Although it was 32bit and didn't have a color profile it wasn't corrupted in anyway. It's a massive file at over 200MB on disk so once loaded in RAM even bigger. Maybe your system shows RAM limitations or the scratch disks are too small if you're using PS.

Thanks for taking a look.

I think I may have found the problem in trying to sort out a different problem.

Windows7 has been making regular system back ups but hasn't been deleting the old data which has meant one of my drives had nearly 700GB of data on it, so I'm hoping that by clearing that lot and doing a new back up routine it will possibly free up the space for it to work.
I have no idea if it will work but I need todo it regardless.
