Parenting is hell....

Each day is a first for a parent of young kids.
Or any parent I suppose.
A day I've been dreading for ages happened today.
Well, at least, not THAT day....that will come pretty soon.

Today my son (12) asked me what the c word meant.
"Everyone at school is using it Dad".
Well, mate, I said...it really is a very offensive word...and I bet
half the kids using it don't even know what it means.

I said, next time you speak to Grandpa, ask him and he will tell you.

Steve

Maybe it's for collimation. That can be poor language inducing.

The 'C' word at school that is offensive?

Must be 'Classroom', 'Classical music', Calulator', 'Culture', or 'Computer'.

Definitely won't be 'Canteen', 'Coke', 'Cannabis', or 'Chips'

Insanity is hereditary; you get it from your kids

What are grandchildren?

Gods reward for not killing your own

What are daughter's?

Gods punishment for being male I should know, I have two daughters

I am sure Grandpa will love you for that Steve

Why not tell him to look it up on Wikipedia.
It seems to be well dealt with there.

im hearing ya Steve, as a stay at home Dad of 3 there seems to be no end to the tricks they try and pull on me. I have heard a few naughty words here and there from them but nothing too severe (yet). Not looking forward to when they drop the C.

Don't get me wrong Colin, I am with you in that my two Daughters, as well as my two sons, are a blessing too.

I remember when I asked my Father that exact same question, his reply was, "you know your doodle between your legs, well that it what they call the girls version". sort of made sense at the time, I think I was about 10 yrs old..maybe a slow starter hey.

Seriously Steve,
(presuming your original post was serious)
If you want to make a success out of this parenting thing...

the last thing you should do is fob off their questions (we'll ask grandpa one day...)
If you want them to come to you with their questions and issues you have to be up front and matter of fact with them all. No matter how painful.
Don't make them feel awkward about asking it.
You want them to be able to talk to you, that way you may be able to head off some serious issues before they become issues.

Anyway, thats just IMHO.
Good luck!

Well Steve, you better find the way to explain it to the boy. Although kids today know much more than we used to at the same age. I was bored the other day and asked my 16 year old daughter if I could listen to her iPod music. Some songs I heard on radio and some I haven't. The good thing about it the name of the songs playing is on the small screen cos sometimes they just scream and I wouldn't have a clue what they are singing.

And then the song with name: "Your mother should have swallowed you" came up.

At first I didn't get it? What the hell does that mean? And a second later I was laughing so loud that everyone could hear me!! Kids today eh...

cheers
